Jam Packed Day with the Zone Leaders

We had 4 hours of great training with these men this morning....

... including a special musical number and going over the spiritual numbers.

We had a beautiful lunch with Lucy's roast beef and yummy potatoes...
and Cinnamon rolls for dessert with a ton of frosting
applied by these gentlemen.
Thanks for the help... you can never have enough frosting.

Lucy's cinnamon rolls are scrumptious and she makes them
with love for all of these Elders that she considers her own.

I had my favorite matching game going on after lunch...

If they pick up two discs with the same animal
they win a prize... today it was Pinkberry yogurt.

The game is easier than it seems. There are eight of each animal.
Oops Elder Castillo got a horse and a cow... sorry.
I surprised them all and took everyone for a Pinkberry.

The missionaries love to lay down on the carpet because you
don't see carpet anywhere in the homes here.

Below are our five newest Zone Leaders....
Elder Quispe, Elder Mieles, Elder Wallace, Elder Cook
and Elder Levos.  Just when you think they can't get
any better than what we have.... TA- DA... some more great ones!

After lunch it was off to do a few hours of service...
We went to a couple of the chapels and scrubbed down
hundreds of chairs... There was a lot of scrubbing,
some strong chemical smells and it got pretty sudsy.

So sudsy and slippery in fact,  that we had a couple of our Elders go down...

Thank goodness no one was injured...
Who knew that scrubbing chairs could be this dangerous.

Elder Levos is tough... he's wet, but he's tough.

Elder Olivares looks like he is wearing a Jewish Kippah.

The Elders did a lot of great work and it was
so fun because they got to wear a mask.

Thanks to our mopping committee...
Elder Wallace and Elder Mecham

Of course on the way out of the church
we had to have a quick shoot out, kick off,
whatever they are called, I can't remember again.

And then off to our newest addition to trujillo.... Pinkberry Yogurt.
It was hilarious to see some of the combinations of the toppings.
There would be kiwi with gummy bears with cheese cake bites
and waffle cones
all with some other golden fruit berries from the jungle
on top of Lucuma flavored yogurt - Wow....

We packed the store with all our Zone Leaders.
The workers had to take photos of all of them in the store.
And of course President Turk
and the Elders were getting referrals from the workers.

It was a nice treat and we hope more that it is a nice
introduction to the Gospel of Jesus Christ for someone.
Life Changing Yogurt run...

Zone Leaders you are the Best Ever!
We love each one of you!

January 14, 2013 1 Kings 19:11-12

Dear Family,
This week was really great. The scripture of the week is 1 kings 19:11-12. Sounds like mom had fun on her dentist trip. I love you guys so much. This past week was good and we now have a baptismal date of a kid named marcos who is 16. He is awesome and has read a lot of the book of mormon and gospel principles. His siblings may also get baptized with him on the 26th. We are trying to marry his parents. and bring the whole family into the gospel. A girl named lucero whos family is all members except shes not also is reading a lot in the book of mormon and came to church yesterday. We are hoping to help her enter into the waters of baptism this month as well. This past week we had a leadership training and we trained the district leaders in our zone. These meetings are always fun and after we ate a norkys a chicken place. that same night we had two of the elders there really sick. from saturday night to sunday morning we went from having nobody sick to having 4 elderes in different areas sick. One of them had to go to the clinic twice and in the middle of the night. But now are recooporating. How is your guys health? I hope good. This week we are having leadership council and also zone leader council with president. I am excited. I spoke in church yesterday and taught elder quorum. I love it. I spoke on agency. God really isn´t there to obligate us but wants us to do many good thinks out of our own will. small decisions can lead to big consequences. Overall I am really happy and love the people here, I love spanish and teaching, and I still have a lot to do in these last 4 months. I hope you have an amazing week!!.

January 7, 2013 James 5:19-20

Dear Family!!!
This week was grrreeaatt!
Last week of the change. everything stays the same. Except a missionary in our zone finished his mission and now I am officially the oldest in our zone :(. haha. The scripture of the week is James 5:19-20. We found some more families this week! I absolutely love teaching families. It looks like we are going to be marrying some people this change. We found a family of 6 who is really awesome. Yesterday all 6 of them came to church for all the hours. Rocio and angyela are doing really awesome. I love seeing strong converts. We are finding a lot of new people to teach which helps us filter the people who are prepared to receive us and those who are not. Im glad you guys had a great new years. I love hearing you guys. We presented our new zone goal for january and we have felt to put it at 15. We spelled out 15 with hand sanatizer in the dark and lit it on fire while we read some scriptures about baptism by fire and It was really cool. Overall I don´t need anything I have everything I need. My dr schools inserts combined with the socks grandma sent me are a great combo and these shoes will last me till the end don´t worry. I know god really is protecting us and can guide each one of us through his holy spirit. I invite you all to search hard for what God expects out of you. Have a great week!!!  elder Hurley

December 31, 2012 1 Peter 3:21

Dear Family,
It was great seeing you this week. You guys are so beautiful. The scripture of this week is 1 peter 3:21. We finished off the year as a mission with 1902 converts. It was an amazing year. Last year there was about 1350. Couple questions before I forget. could someone find out how much an EFY councilor makes in a summer or an MTC teacher. It would be cool to know those things. Tom, what part of ecuador did you serve in? we have 4 elders in our zone from ecuador. Everyone always points our that Mom looks really young and really beautiful. The first thing that all the latins say. Hope that makes you feel good mama. cuz its true!! THis week we baptized angyela. She a true conversion. We were teaching her family for about 2 months before we actually met her. One night she entered while we were teaching her family and we met her. We got to know here a little and she really wanted nothing to do with us or the church or any religion. She really seemed kind of angry that we were there. In the next visit we had with her mom she acompanied us. We just shared a little message about prayer and the scriptures and sabbath day. She felt the spirit. Every since that lesson she kept feeling the spirit and went to church and felt it even more, read and prayed a lot about the book of mormon. and after attending church 2 times got baptized the following saturday. She shared the strongest testimony in her baptism and the spirit was so strong. We now are focusing to baptize her dad and little sister. to complete the whole family. For chrismas we watched the polar express and ate with the missionaries here in laredo. For new years tonight we are just entering the room early (to avoid all the drunks) and nothing else. Hope you guys have a happy new year!!! I want to invite you all to make goals for this years but along with the goals to put plans of how you are going to do it. Cuz without specific plans it never happens haha. Thanks for being so awesome. Talk to you next year!
