November 21, 2011 Alma 7:14-16

I. Speak. Spanish.
Hey there beautiful family, what a week.
First of all the scripture of the week, is Alma 7:14-16.
14 Now I say unto you that ye must arepent, and be born again; for the Spirit saith if ye are not born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.
15 Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth abeset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism. 16 And whosoever doeth this, and keepeth the commandments of God from thenceforth, the same will aremember that I say unto him, yea, he will remember that I have said unto him, he shall have eternal life, according to the testimony of the Holy Spirit, which testifieth in me.

This week was up and down, lots of emotional hits in the mission, my progressing investigator Miguel relapsed and drank alcohol again, my recent convert broke a serious commandment, our baptism for saturday didn`t happen cuz couldn`t get permission from her mom. BUT, all and all, its just a nother brick in the wall. IT was a great week. We had lots of progress and I know Elder Meza and I (y el espiritu) are going to have much success here. He is from Mexico, so his Spanish is really impure haha mixed with some english stuff. But its fun. Im doing all i can to help him become a great missionary. Im gunna go ahead and say im fluent in spanish now. its something can always grow, but im perfectly comfortable speaking to anyone about anything. We have some really great investigators and found a lot of great people this week. It was great reading your letter dad. Mom must have sent to my hotmail again or something. Courts and Matt also was great to here from. Love hearing your stories, dad always makes me laugh. Like I said lots of crazy stuff happened this week. But i am doing all i can to help these people that I love. Its good being a daddy. Especially to someone i just have to teach the gospel and teaching skills, not spanish. I wish you wouldn`t tell me about snowboarding. Haha my first year in 7 years without snowboarding. its getting hot here. but its always the same. The work is progressing every day, I love you guys, i feel the spirit through your letters. love all serve all

November 15th, 2011 Alma 26:21-22

Hey family family, Love your letters, lots to tell ya today.

Scripture of the week is Alma 26:21-22.

  1.   21 And now behold, my brethren, what anatural man is there that knoweth these things? I say unto you, there is bnone that cknoweth these things, save it be the penitent.
22 Yea, he that arepenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good bworks, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the cmysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be dgiven to ereveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.

Love getting your letters. Dad got me laughing more than he had in a while. he went off on pies for like an hour. I forgot to tell you last week that i went to a cool place for p day last week, some ruins. la waka del sol y de la luna. The pyramid of the sun and the moon. I'm sure with that a lone dad is going to be researching it like crazy. but it was cool to learn about the moche civilization. Last week was good. The brother that has decided to get baptized, miguel that i talked about had his interview, and passed, just had to set some goals to be sure he is done with alcohol, he should be getting baptized the 26th. I killed elder cotrina this week. He finished his mission Monday. we worked hard till the end, but it made me think about you guys and when Matt finished his mission and stuff. But maybe he`ll find me on Facebook, if courts is running my Facebook, and you can get some pics through that. Today I went to the mission home, cuz i will be singing at the Christmas program, every year they do something big at the plaza in Trujillo. we had a practice, and visited with sister and president Turk for a little. Also I am going to be a daddy. I am going to be a trainer now. So there should be some pic of me i'm thinking tomorrow of the trainer meeting or something on the blog. means I have a little less proselyting time and a little more comp study, which i'm gunna miss the extra hour of proselyting, but i am excited to train. eLDER MEZA will be my companion. They changed p day for today like you guys know. Sounds like courts had a good week. weird that thanksgiving and Christmas is coming up. mom says its getting colder and colder, but here it is just getting hotter and hotter. Those numbers are crazy that dad sent, about the missonary, 17 baptisms in a week. i am just gunna keep pushing and working my hardest in the work. Should have a baptism this week, and one next week. 1 a week is really good, but i shouldn't limit myself in any way. I am really getting where i desire these peoples salvation, rather just a blessing in their life. I look forward to your package. you guys are the best family ever. have a great week and I will update ya about my new companion.
con amor,
elder Hurley

November 7, 2011 2 Nephi 9:39

Hey beautiful family. Much to write today hope i have the time. since mom just sent some questions, I meant a cd of piano music hymns only if its possible. and allred christmas maybe is in itunes and you can make a cd, or it is in my drawer or in the cupboards in the kitchen.

Scripture of the week is 2 nephi 9:39

39 O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in atransgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that bcunning one. Remember, to be ccarnally-minded is ddeath, and to be espiritually-minded is flife geternal.

. Dad if you get rid of max I am not coming home. Max has a great life, especially compared to all the dogs i see here that have no home and eat garbage to survive. and especially compared to this little dog i saw this week that got torn apart by a bigger dog and i only hope survived. Some questions, can someone find the address for breyandi andrada, you can talk to her through face book or something courts, she has written me a couple times through email but im not allowed to respond there and i don´t have her address. Thanks for your wonderful stories. I´ll try to cut some things in order to write some thoughts about curtis smith. but first of all we had another baptizm this week. The little brother of stefhany, who pretty much her whole family is baptizing. He is only 8, but he has a ton of faith and is a real good kid. He was late to sacrament meeting and that was kinda scary for me cuz if he doesn´t get confirmed its not a full baptizm haha. But we did it at the end of the meeting and i gave him the holy ghost. Also we had a miracle this week. This man named miguel we have been teaching for a while, has been real difficult, always asks tons of strange questions about deep doctrinal stuff. He has been talking with missionaries for a long time though. His whole family got baptized like 2 years ago, except his wife got baptized like 3 months ago (finally could cuz got legally married). But he has a son in the field on a mission, and his other son in the mtc which i talked a little about in my last letter i think. But He also has trouble with drinking with his friends. not like addiction just like custom. but on friday we had a way spiritual lesson with him, and we promised him some things we felt to. ( i decided i should always use ¨we¨ when i talk about the work, cuz i can´t do anything by myself without my other 4 companions) But he expressed a repented heart, and accepted to baptized for this saturday. He attended all three hours of church on sunday also and is really getting on the right path. We are meeting with him daily. I have faith that it will happen. Dads right that it is funner to teach than to knock (we don´t knock doors in this mission much though). the story about the man who rejected the missionaries and then one day listen for 5 minutes that reminds me of this guy we knocked one day just for fun and he just says bible, its bible i just know it and slammed the door. but we went one more time and his greeted us and even came out, but then he realized we were missionaries and it was the same thing, but i got my foot in the door this time and expressed how important this is for him. haha, one day. ok 5 minutes for curtis, just ideas i don´t have time to write a well thought out coherent letter.
I will always remember the scout camp in camp loll where he made me assistant scout leader to him, to help watch over the younger scouts, and especially playing zee vu plai (don´t know how to spell it) a french drinking game but just passing cups around haha. and also the astronomy merit badge and looking at the stars in the night with his awesome telescope. Also he really cares about every single one of the scouts and helps them succeed and pushes them to not settle for what they know is best. He even cared personally for my, and said i could come to his dental office to learn some stuff about the profesion i would like to do. He will make a great stake young mens president, don´t know if there is anyone else dedicated like he is. He trusts the scouts too. ok thats it for now, awesome that imma get a package. should be faster now that im in trujillo to get it physically too. don´t worry too much about specific things i have said, i don´t need anything. I loved the letter from whitney, if i have time after i write president i will write her personally thanks for writing whit, loved your letter and the love you have for courts. Love how much love our family has for each other. I have the best family in the world. Have a great week.

Halloween October 31, 2011 Mosiah 16:9

hey family,
This week was great. Its halloween? who knew. For halloween here there is a whole lot of nothing. haha. just another day. but i want to see a picture of mom as a rocker.

The scripture of the week is mosiah 16:9.

He is the alight and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.

Sounds like you are all doin good. dad needs to write a book. we had 2 baptizms this week. ONe of the little sister of esthefany, who i baptized 2 weeks ago, and another is a sister of a girl named lourdes who got baptized like a month or two ago. It may appear a little interesting that we have only baptized teenage girls haha, but the are all refferals from ward members and they are all progressing in the gospel together. Some more ideas, only ideas doesn`t mean you have to include them, for the package for christmas or whatever, would be airborne. for when i get colds, and maybe music of hymns arranged in cool ways played only by a piano. only hymns though. if you could find that would be awesome. The work is really moving along, we are getting more and more people. on saturday we had appointments every half hour throughout the whole day, 15. i don´t think that has ever happened. pretty much all of them failed though. but we had plenty to do. I also had the oportunity to teach an atheist on saturday. That was really interesting. I think we helped her a ton, and hopefully we can meet with her more. Im real comfortable with the language.
Some times it is still a little frustrating when my companion some times expects me to understand everything the same as him haha. Sorry to be short this week, but i sent some pictures. oh to answer dads question about chinese food, they have it here but not common, my pensionista one time made pineapple chicken which was amazing. Loved hearing from mom too, she has such a sweet heart and i don`t think there is better example living on the earth right now than her. Thanks for tempting me with the facebook link. but i´ll see the real jet eventually. He is way cute in those pictures. Sounds like courts is doing amazing. She is such a hard working. Straight A´s always. Love you family so so much. Have a great week!
